August News

After many years of organising the annual club tour, Geoff has stood down, with Nick taking his place. We are grateful for the time and work he has invested through those years for the continued betterment of the club.

The committee has approved David’s appointment to direct the Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon, previously done by Michael. It will run on the 28th of February, though our Eridge 10 Trail Challenge will occur first on the 27th of September.

We are eager to see if we get more club places in London 2027, given the two-day nature of the event this time around. By the many harriers volunteering to keep our flagship events special, plenty will be eligible to compete for those places.

Stuart was pleased to announce a collaboration with Tonbridge AC for more age-band opportunities for track racing, the first example being a special 1500m race for >50 master athletes that occurred on the 4th of August.

Given the immense heat and UV recently, it was also timely for Andrew to announce the new, marvellous TWH bucket hat for purchase.

What doesn’t seem to be changing is the excellent rate at which club records are being broken and podiums are being filled up with harriers. Since the newsletter in May, new club records are in the double digits, and the same is true of harrier podium positions in July alone! I’m not surprised the race reports have been flying in with photos of many happy runners. I am in awe at what many of you can do.

Our handicapped race series had its fourth and final race on August 5th . Many congratulations go to Reuben for winning the Speldhurst Trophy overall, with John and Steph second and third respectively.

To round off the month, we have upcoming:

Summer Memorial Relays on 26th August,

Tunbridge Wells Parkrun Takeover on 29th August.

Club Track Mile Championship on 31st August.

Perhaps good preparation for an autumn race season not too far in the future? Exciting times await.
